Virent recognizes your brand in answers by its name, its other names and the sources it owns. Competitors give every mention something to compare against.

## Your brand

Edit it in **Settings → Brand**.

### Brand type

Company, person or creator, local business, or other. The type shapes the prompts Virent suggests.
### Also known as

Other names an answer may use: a short name, a former name, a product name, a handle. Each name needs at least two characters.
### Profiles and pages you own

Up to 25 sources whose citations count as yours: Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and X profiles, another website, or any URL prefix such as a marketplace listing.
### Website

Optional for Visibility. Add one later to unlock Analytics and Content Agent.

New names and sources apply to answers collected after you save them. Earlier answers are not recalculated.

## Brands without a website

A creator, a local business or a new company can be monitored by name alone. Mentions come from the brand's names; citations come from the profiles and pages it owns. Analytics, crawler data and Content Agent need a website and say so instead of showing empty data.

A brand without a website counts as one of your plan's brands, the same as a website. See [Plans and billing](/docs/workspace/plans-and-billing#brands).

## Competitors

Open **Tracked Brands** to see the competitors you track, each with its domain or "Tracked by name". Rankings, mention rate and share of voice are on **Overview** and **Prompt Monitoring**.

- **Add competitor** with a name, a domain or both. A competitor without a domain is tracked by name.
- Open a competitor to edit its domain, other names and positioning.
- **Suggest competitors** researches the web from your business profile and proposes competitors, each with its sources.
- Select competitors to delete them.

Your plan lists the number of competitors per brand: 3 on Core, 8 on Growth and 15 on Scale and Plus.

## Tips

- Track the competitors buyers actually compare you with. Share of voice is only as meaningful as the set it is measured against.
- Add the names people really use, including common misspellings, so mentions aren't missed.
- List every owned profile. A citation of your YouTube channel or LinkedIn page is a citation of you.
