# How AI answers talk about your brand, every day.

> How Virent Visibility works - the 9 AI engines, the daily schedule, mention rate, share of voice, citations and the evidence behind every score.

Visibility asks AI engines the questions your buyers ask, every day, and records which brands each answer names and which sources it cites. No install and no website needed.

## How it works

1. You track prompts: Questions buyers ask AI assistants, suggested during onboarding or added any time. See [Prompts and answers](/docs/visibility/prompts).
2. Virent asks every engine: Each tracked prompt runs once a day on each enabled engine.
3. Each answer is analyzed: Virent records the brands it names, their position when the answer has an order, and the sources it cites.
4. You compare: Your brand against the competitors you track, over time. See [Brands and competitors](/docs/visibility/brands-and-competitors).

## Engines

Every plan includes all 9 engines, enabled by default:

| Engine | Where the answer's sources come from |
| --- | --- |
| ChatGPT | The day's shared web search |
| Claude | The day's shared web search |
| Gemini | The day's shared web search |
| Grok | The day's shared web search |
| DeepSeek | The day's shared web search |
| Meta AI | The day's shared web search |
| Perplexity | Perplexity's own search |
| Google AI Overviews | The AI Overview on Google's search results page |

For the shared web search, Virent searches the web for each prompt once a day and gives those results to each of these engines, so they all answer from the same sources.

Answers come from each provider's API (Google AI Overviews from Google's results page), not from the consumer apps people use, which can personalize answers by account, location and history. Every answer shows the provider and model that produced it.

To change engines, open **Settings → Assistants**. Changes apply from the next daily run; history for a turned-off engine is kept.

## Schedule

- Tracked prompts run once a day, starting at 06:00 UTC.
- New prompts join the next daily run. To see an answer sooner, open the prompt and choose **Run this prompt** for one answer now: one AI credit.
- Paused prompts keep their history and stop running until you resume them.

## Metrics

### Mention rate

The share of answers that name your brand or one of its other names.
### Share of voice

Your mentions as a share of all mentions of you and your tracked competitors.
### Visibility score

Mention rate and share of voice averaged, from 0 to 100.
### Position

Where your brand appears in answers that list brands in order. Shown only when an order is observable.
### Citations

Sources answers link to. **Top domains** lists the cited domains, each marked You, Competitor or Other, with how many answers used them.

Every number opens the answers behind it. A score with no answers behind it is shown as no data, not zero.

## Read results carefully

- Answers are sampled observations for your prompts, engines and schedule. They do not represent every conversation people have with an assistant.
- The same prompt can get a different answer from one day to the next. Look at trends over several days before acting.
- A failed or incomplete run is shown as such. It is never counted as "not mentioned".
- Visibility does not measure real AI search volume, and Virent does not guarantee mentions or citations.

## Where to find it

| Page | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| Overview | Visibility score, mention rate, share of voice and rankings |
| Prompt Monitoring | Rankings and mention rate by brand, every prompt by engine, top domains, and each answer in full |
| Tracked Brands | The competitors you track and their domains: add, suggest, edit and delete them |
| Content Gaps | Questions where competitors appear and you don't |
